Loretta was first introduced to yoga in the Fall of 2009 through the Ramapo College of NJ yoga club. She was initially attracted to the asana (yoga poses) that were so closely tied to her roots as a classically trained dancer. What sold her on the practice was the safety, and both the mental and physiological benefits that are emphasized in yoga posture alignment... something she never experienced as an athlete with many injuries.
In 2011, Loretta graduated from the college's 200-HR Yoga Teacher Training program and started teaching immediately. Since then, she has continued her education by receiving her 500-HR YTT certificate, a certificate to teach Yin Yoga, as well as certificates to teach yoga to specialized populations including Cancer Patients and Positive Body Imagine/Eating Disorder Yoga. She is in the process of receiving her 700-HR Yoga Therapist Certification.
Students describe Loretta's teaching as "juicy and uplighting," as well as "just the right amount of uncomfortable." She offers her sequencing with grace, clarity and a little bit of humor so that you often times forget the degree to which you're being challenged. All of her classes are accompanied by a diverse music playlist, as well as a story or a theme to help students connect their practice to life's burning questions.
Over the years Loretta has had the pleasure of working with with a diverse range of populations. Towards the end of her college career, she was introduced to Kula for Karma; a NJ based non-profit that offers yoga and meditation programs at no cost to people who face physical and mental health challenges. Through Kula, Loretta got to experience yoga for addiction, special needs, cancer, at-risk youth, veterans, prisoners, just to name a few. Working with these different populations brought Loretta to the realization that yoga is not a 'one size fits all' model. Loretta believes that each of us has our own path, or flow, as she likes to call it. As a yoga teacher, her goal is to help her students discover their flow, and through movement, find the smoothest and most effective way to take charge of their own healthcare.
